My Journey
I started my art journey on the living room floor of my childhood home, in front of the fireplace with the giant art kit I got from my grandma for Christmas. I was probably 10-12 years old, but I decided there, that to be an artist was all I wanted out of life. Using a photograph of a Great Horned Owl for our family's Child Craft book collection, I created as near perfect of a copy of that owl as a little girl with cheap oil pastels on construction paper could get.
As a teenager I followed my art passion aggressively. As a sophomore in high school, I won a scholarship to spend a summer studying with a professional artist. Unfortunately it was not a good match and I would end up walking away from my dreams of becoming a professional artist.
I did other things like sew and stagecraft to fulfill my artist longing, but in 2021 an unfortunate bout with Lyme disease left me trying to find purpose, direction, and nervous system healing. I ultimately went back to school and became a Master Herbalist and Naturopath which is my day job now. In that process I rekindled my artistic passion as part of my herbalist studies.
Eleven year olds have the audacity to proclaim that they are Artists. After many, many years of feeling like I don't have the authority to claim that, I have taken back that audacity and I proudly proclaim that I am indeed and Artist, always, have been, and always will be.
Today I work primarily in watercolor and gouache painting. I don't put any constraints on what art form I pursue, however. Whatever sparks my creative notion is the medium I will work in. I do not paint from 9-5, but whenever and wherever I can fit it in.
My husband and daughter are my world and they put up with my constant creative chaos. My sister is my partner in business. We run Northstar Natural Health together to help take care of our own families as well as to give natural health options to our small town community.
